\"AtarDies ist eine Geschichte über Sklaverei und Rache. Fabien Nury hat den gleichnamigen Roman von Eugène Sue als Comic adaptiert, Brüno hat die Geschichte in einem Stil zu Papier gebracht, der entfernt an den Stil von Berthet erinnert. Alles beginnt  im westafrikanischen Benin, wo sich 1830 zwei Stämme bekriegen. Der Geschäftsmann Benoit, Kapitän eines Sklavenschiffs, macht bei dem Sklavenhändler van Harp Station, um eine neue Ladung aufzunehmen. Die verfeindeten Stämme bringen ihm die Ware. Alle<\/em>, erzählt van Harp ganz befriedigt, alle bringen uns hervorragende Exemplare! Sie haben endlich aufgehört, ihre Gefangenen zu verspeisen und verkaufen sie stattdessen an uns. <\/em>23 Männer, 19 Frauen und 11 Kinder stehen zur Verschiffung bereit.<\/p>\n

Allerdings ist da noch ein ganz besonderer Schwarzer, der auf den Namen Atar Gull hört. Er ist der Sohn eines Häuptlings und von sehr kräftiger Statur. Für ihn, meint van Harp, müsse Benoit extra zahlen. Haben Sie seine Muskeln gesehen? In Jamaika können Sie ihn als “Mandingo” verkaufen. So ein Zuchthengst wird Ihnen mindestens 500 Pfund Sterling einbringen. <\/em>Benoit lässt sich darauf ein – nicht wissend, dass dieser Sklave nicht nur kräftig, sondern auch clever ist. Und auf Rache sinnt. Auf eine sehr gründliche Rache.<\/p>\n

Die Geschichte wird von Brüno spannend erzählt. Und obwohl ihr Schwerpunkt auf der Abenteuer- und Piratenebene liegt, kann man sie auch als exotische Erzählung lesen. Die Grafik wirkt auf den ersten Blick etwas simpel gestrickt, ist aber ausdrucksstark und sehenswert. Laurence Croix hat sie in warmen Braun- und Ockertönen koloriert.<\/p>\n
